Welcome to Dawlish College.
It continues to be an absolute privilege to be the Headteacher at Dawlish College – the staff and students are second to none and take all of life’s challenges in their stride. Despite current uncertainties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we continue to hold onto our core purpose in all that we do. Behind all of the decisions taken and measures put in place sits the balance between keeping staff and students safe whilst also providing them with a varied and exciting school experience.
Dawlish College is a vibrant and exciting place to be, where we have the highest expectations of staff and students alike and seek to provide challenge at every available opportunity. As a small school, we have a very proud record of holistic support, care and individual attention: the happiness and well-being of our students is of paramount importance and is a vital foundation for their growth and development. Our college has an atmosphere of creativity and positivity that is generated by the provision of excellent opportunities for every individual thereby maximising the outcomes and improving the life chances of the young people in our care.
As a parent myself, I understand that you want your child to be inspired, supported and challenged to be the best version of themselves within an environment that knows them and values them as an individual. Thank you for entrusting me with the care and education of your child, present or future, and I look forward to unlocking their ambitions as I get to know them and work closely with you.

Funded by Health Education England, HappyMaps is designed to help parents find useful resources on behaviour and mental health for their children - from babies to young adults. It is hoped that this will be really useful for parents whose children don't meet the specialist referral thresholds or are perhaps on the waiting list . There is good general information (national) and also local information on counselling, charities, local CAMHS and parenting groups for the South West. Take a look at their website

Championing Mental Well- Being
The statistics surrounding teenage mental health are worrying: 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year; 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14; 1 in 12 young people self- harm at some point in their lives. The agencies set up to support young people are struggling to meet the demand and so three out of four young people do not get access to the support they need. Waiting times for appointments with mental health professionals are up to 10 months. All the talk around mental health is actually about mental ill-health and so staff and students at Dawlish College are taking a new approach as part of their fight to secure the best future possible for their students. They are leading the way with an initiative to promote good mental health within their school community. A group of staff and students have undergone extensive training from professionals in the field of mental health and well-being and are now ready to begin putting what they’ve learnt into practice. Mrs Wickham commented “Our Mental Health Ambassadors will be central in driving a more preventative approach for young people dealing with the tough job of growing up. We are all very excited.”
